Fresno's Chinatown dates to about 1872, when Chinese settlers were pushed west of the railroad tracks and built a district that grew multi-ethnic: Chinese, Japanese, Basque, and Mexican businesses side by side. Ten buildings sit on the Fresno Historic Register, including the Azteca Theater, the Basque Hotel, and the tong association halls on China Alley.
