The Tower District is Fresno's arts and nightlife neighborhood, named for the 1939 Tower Theatre and its 80-foot neon spire at Olive and Wishon. The blocks around it hold about 80 businesses: restaurants, bars, live theatres, record and book shops, and bakeries, in a streetcar-suburb grid built up through the 1920s and 30s. Daytime is coffee, brunch, and browsing; nights belong to shows at the Tower Theatre, Roger Rocka's, and the clubs. Walking it costs nothing.
