Huntington Lake sits at about 7,000 feet, five miles long, an hour and a half northeast of Fresno at the top of Highway 168. Reliable afternoon westerlies make it one of California's premier sailing lakes, and the Fresno Yacht Club hosts the annual High Sierra Regatta here. Seven Forest Service campgrounds ring the shore, reservable through recreation.gov. The water stays cold all summer, general access is free, and snow can keep the area closed into late spring.
