About
Millerton Lake sits behind Friant Dam on the San Joaquin River, about 25 minutes north of Fresno. It is the closest big lake to town for boating, swimming, and fishing.
The lake has launch ramps, swim beaches, and shoreline trails. Winter brings bald eagle tours by boat. The old Millerton County Courthouse, moved up from the original valley townsite, stands near the south shore.
There is a day-use fee per vehicle. Summer weekends are crowded and hot, so arrive early for a parking spot near the water.
